The Mask of Mutation allows its user to mutate another living being from a distance.[1] The user can also give and take away powers with the mutations.[2][3] However, its user cannot mutate themselves.[4] A mutation caused by the mask is permanent unless it is undone by the mask user.[5] The user has control over how the target is mutated,[6] which includes being able to undo other mutations such as those caused by Hordika Venom, Makuta viruses, and Roodaka's Rhotuka power, but not those caused by Energized Protodermis.[7] Reversing a mutation is more difficult without detailed knowledge of the original mutation.[8]

A Nuva Mask of Mutation is created when a destined Mask of Mutation is dipped in Energized Protodermis. In addition to its standard abilities, its power can be shared with individuals near the user; however, it can only be used by Nuva beings.

Trivia

  • Although the Mask of Mutation is used by a Makuta, it is generally not considered an immoral mask since Miserix was not a part of the Brotherhood of Makuta's rebellion.[9]
  • Mutran was originally going to wear the "Kanohi Artidax," the Mask of Mutation, but Greg Farshtey dropped the idea upon seeing that Mutran and Chirox shared the same mask in their sets. The name Artidax became an island, and the Mask of Mutation was instead given to Miserix.[Bios]
