== History ==
The Waikiru species was created by the [[Makuta]] using [[Virus]]es and [[Protodermis#Liquid Protodermis|Liquid Protodermis]] to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the [[Matoran Universe]].{{BookCitation|MGttU|63|entryname=The Makuta}}

On [[Metru Nui]], Waikiru could be found along the [[Ga-Metru]] shoreline. Following the [[Great Cataclysm]], a group of Waikiru migrated to the newly-formed island of [[Mata Nui (Location)|Mata Nui]]. Here, they established a colony in the [[Ga-Wahi]] region, where they lived for 1,000 years.

A storm created by [[Toa Mata]] [[Gali]] accidentally displaced several Waikiru. Feeling responsible, she then placed these Waikiru under her care.{{BookCitation|BEU|155|entryname=Waikiru}}

== Abilities and Traits ==
The agility of Waikiru when swimming is in sharp contrast to their slow and awkward movement on land. They use their tusks to defend themselves from threats, such as [[Takea]],{{BookCitation|BEU|155|entryname=Waikiru}} when escape by swimming is not an option. If treated with care, they are gentle towards [[Matoran]], but if threatened, they may charge, posing a formidable danger.
