== Biography ==
During the [[Toa-Dark Hunter War]], an [[Onu-Matoran]] was helping to build a new section of the [[Archives]] under [[Ga-Metru]] when the tunnel ceiling collapsed. Mutagenic chemicals in a Ga-Metru laboratory above the dig site poured all of its contents onto him when it caved in, and mutated him into his current state. When he finally emerged from the rubble, his new form terrified his friends. Shocked and saddened, he left the city with the [[Dark Hunters]].{{BookCitation|DH}}

After discovering his vulnerability to sound, the Dark Hunters equipped Subterranean with sound-dampening armor to counteract this weakness. For the next 4,000 years, Subterranean served as a Dark Hunter on various missions, some of which involved hunting [[Toa]].{{BookCitation|DH}}

Shortly before [[Mata Nui's Reawakening]], the Shadowed One dispatched Subterranean on a mission to discuss an alliance with a group of [[Frostelus]], on the theory that he was one of the few beings uglier than them.{{BookCitation|DH}} These negotiations went poorly.{{GregCitation|CwGF|page=316|post=9712637|lines=5,10}}

== Abilities and Traits ==
Subterranean has the power to disassemble anything he touches. He can temporarily hypnotize his opponents with a mere glance.

In addition to these powers, Subterranean's mutation enhanced his hearing to the point that even the slightest sound is painful to him. For this reason, he is equipped with sound-dampening armor, although he still avoids Toa of [[Sound]] whenever possible.{{BookCitation|DH}}
