== History ==
The Moa species was created by the [[Makuta]] using [[Virus]]es and [[Protodermis#Liquid Protodermis|Liquid Protodermis]] to be one of the Rahi to inhabit the [[Matoran Universe]].{{BookCitation|MGttU|63|entryname=The Makuta}}

When the [[Great Cataclysm]] struck, a population of Moa migrated to the newly-formed island of [[Mata Nui (Location)|Mata Nui]] and established themselves to the [[Po-Wahi]] region, where they lived for 1,000 years. Some were tamed by the [[Po-Matoran]]{{MediaCitation|QftT}} and were used as a method of transportation.

Towards the end of the [[Great War]], the wandering [[Av-Matoran]] [[Takua]] rescued a Po-Matoran's tamed Moa from a rock fall during his quest to recover the [[Toa Stone]]s. He also encountered wild Moa, which would attack him if he stayed in one place for too long.{{MediaCitation|QftT}}
