On Metru Nui, Kantai lived and worked in [[Ko-Metru]].

He was captured by [[Vahki]] under the command of [[Makuta]] [[Teridax]] disguised as [[Turaga]] [[Dume]]. He was then placed into a [[Matoran Sphere]] and went into stasis, but was later [[Great Rescue|rescued]] by the [[Toa Metru]] and reawakened on the shores of [[Naho Bay]] on the island of {{p|Mata Nui|Location}}.

=== Mata Nui ===
As a result of being in a Matoran Sphere, Kantai lost his memories of Metru Nui and was reduced in size and physical strength. He helped in the construction of [[Ko-Koro]] under Turaga [[Nuju]]'s guidance, using pieces from [[Airship]]s brought to Mata Nui in the Great Rescue.{{BookCitation|BW}}

On Mata Nui, Kantai became a Hermit and lived in [[the Drifts]], near the Ice Floe in a small cave there. He was well-versed in the [[Kolhii Skills|Kolhii Skill]] of [[Willpower]] and taught it to any who asked. In the peaceful time after the [[Battle Against the Bohrok-Kal|defeat]] of the [[Bohrok-Kal]], Kantai was [[The Rebuilding|rebuilt]] into a stronger form, alongside the other Matoran.

He later foresaw the [[Ga-Matoran]] [[Hahli]]'s coming and taught her Willpower by having her balance on the Ice Pole. Kantai was evacuated from Ko-Koro with the other Ko-Matoran following the [[Rahkshi]]'s attack on the village.

=== Return to Metru Nui ===
Kantai later helped in the construction of [[Boat]]s to return to Metru Nui. After they reached the city, the [[Matoran]] populace, including Kantai, worked to renovate the dilapidated city. He temporarily stopped his work of reconstruction on order of [[Jaller]], to force the Turaga to reveal where the [[Toa Nuva]] had gone, but he eventually got back to work.
