Prior to the [[Great Cataclysm]], Aft lived and worked in [[Ta-Metru]]. He was captured by [[Vahki]] under the command of [[Makuta]] [[Teridax]] disguised as [[Turaga]] [[Dume]]. He was then placed into a [[Matoran Sphere]] but was later [[Great Rescue|rescued]] by the [[Toa Metru]] and reawakened on the shores of [[Naho Bay]] on the island of {{p|Mata Nui|Location}}.

Aft's body was reduced in strength and size and he lost his previous memories as a result of his exposure to the effects of the Matoran Sphere.{{BookCitation|BA4}} In the beginning years of the Dark Time, he worked in the construction of [[Ta-Koro]] under Turaga [[Vakama]]'s instruction, taking parts from the dismantled [[Airship]]s which had been used by the [[Toa]] to transport the Matoran to Mata Nui.{{BookCitation|BW}}
