Overview
In the wilderness between settled lands, a people tasked with maintaining the balance of nature move through unseen paths. These secretive and far-traveled people are the Bomokhu, who are known for tracking and regulating Rahi populations, maintaining caves and waterways, seeding soil, and promoting harmony in nature.

The Bomokhu possess great adaptability and tenacity, which is what has allowed them to gain a foothold in the most hostile regions of the universe. They harmonize with their environments and take great pains to move with the natural contours of their ecotones. They are additionally able to use Kanohi, and their warriors display a level of fitness to rival veterans from other societies. Bomokhu generally find kinship with Rahi, looking for patterns and inserting themselves as seamlessly as they can into Rahi social structures. A Bomokhu naturalist will usually attempt to simply observe Rahi undisturbed, but some press up against the boundaries of nature and pull complex Rahi societies around themselves, going so far as to lead them.
Bomokhu naturally possess a pair of small horns on their head, and over a Bomokhu’s career of patrolling the wilds they will add shards of bonemetal to their horns with grafts through a painful ritual process. Some tribes have adopted alternative customs, choosing to graft other materials to their horns instead of bonemetal. The size and elaborate engravings of grafted horns tend to be seen as status symbols within Bomokhu clans.
While the Bomokhu people originate in the fertile and expansive lands of Udonogawai, the Southern Continent of the Matoran Universe, a combination of wanderlust and the wars that have ravaged the region have driven some communities of Bomokhu into diaspora. While a great many remain on their home landmass, those that depart tend to seek out lands of extremes and habitually adapt to them as if they were natives themselves.
Most Bomokhu stem from one of the three largest Tribes, the Jungle, Desert, or Coastal Bomokhu. These are the oldest communities of Bomokhu - when a clan strikes out independently of them to move to a different kind of environment, they can establish whole new Tribes. This process is one of deliberate education and adaptation, consisting of the honing of skill and equipment, and can take many years to complete. Once fully acclimated to an environment, most Bomokhu can move as if through shadow from one region of their patrolled lands to the other at frightening speed.
Tribes are further divided into smaller, territorial clans, each led by Bomokhu elders. Most elders direct their clans in the day to day works of managing the ecosystems they integrate with, and also are central in determining when a violent response is necessary to protect their work or eliminate existential threats to the clan or land.
Bomokhu clans will sometimes come together in order to collaboratively plan or rebuild ecologies they have dominion over, preparing it for new habitation or repairing it after natural disasters or wars. When clans disagree about a course of action, the elders of each clan meet and decide on the best course of action, drawing from the experience and understanding of the land. If clans from more than one tribe are involved, those from outside the style of land being managed will defer to elders from native clans.
Though many splintered clans can be found throughout the universe, the largest and most unified tribes are those found in their homeland:

Jungle Bomokhu
The Bomokhu of the Vezohi and Balrapahi jungles are skilled naturalists, surviving in regions of dense vegetation that most would dare not approach. The Jungle Bomokhu have a reputation as being hostile to outsiders and are sometimes blamed for raids on villages in regions where they’re known to operate, even if it isn’t true. The members of this tribe are usually seasoned hunters, taking great pride in the trophies they collect. Survivor accounts from those who’ve ventured into the jungles have described them as raiders who will attack campsites with ranged weapons before moving in to dispatch any unlucky stragglers.

Desert Bomokhu
In contrast to those living in Vezohi, the Bomokhu of Asonara are somewhat friendlier toward outsiders. They will often trade and, when compensated, offer guidance through the treacherous deserts they call home, and maintain the ephemeral trade roads through the region. The members of this tribe are often skilled in mounted traversal, forming close bonds with their companion Rahi. It is not uncommon to see a highly-decorated mount, with dozens of trophies and trinkets hanging from their saddles.

Coastal Bomokhu
Further toward Balrapahi’s Coast of Storms, the Bomokhu eke out a living in small fishing communities, hunting Rahi in the waters. These coastal Bomokhu have adopted a custom of grafting coral to their antlers instead of bonemetal, inspired by their close relationship with the otherwise detached and lax Gawalai. They will occasionally spend time fishing and trading with Matoran from nearby villages.

Other Tribes
Due to various reasons, clans hailing from the above tribes have split off and ventured to other parts of the Matoran Universe, adapting to those environments and learning new ways to manage those ecologies. While some clans can come to be known for the same adaptations and come from different tribes, the list below describes the general relationships that are common between different Tribes.

The following Tribes have descended from the Jungle Bomokhu:
Urban Bomokhu, who are more sociable than their home tribe and thrive as general purpose caravaneers. They adapt to the urban jungle and tend to forsake connections with nature, helping plan villages around the land to compromise for the sake of both.
Swamp Bomokhu, who are markedly less sociable than Jungle Bomokhu and are adept in the ways of poisons and medicine. Some Swamp Bomokhu delve into the most extreme forms of pain and psychoactive properties of swamp plants, and shun their inner Light to become Shadow Bomokhu.
Cavern Bomokhu, who have a contentious but stable relationship with the various mining and subterranean hunter societies of the Matoran Universe.

The following Tribes have descended from the Desert Bomokhu:
Plains Bomokhu, who have a reputation as sellswords and farmers both.
Fire Plains Bomokhu, who have strong relationships with several important lava management villages throughout the Matoran Universe.
Psi-tone Bomokhu, who patrol regions of the Matoran Universe that overflow with runaway Psionic energies. Some Psi-tone Bomokhu have been known to learn how to proof themselves against the darkness inherent in fighting malignant psionic entities, rejecting their inner Shadow and becoming Light Bomokhu.

The following Tribes have descended from the Coastal Bomokhu:
Arctic Bomokhu, who have adapted to glacial regions, almost exclusively working with cold weather Rahi and managing ice floes.
Mountain Bomokhu, who have adapted to life in nearly vertical environments, and are generally more isolationist than Coastal Bomokhu.
Gyre Bomokhu, who have adapted to life in magnetic and gravity suspended island chains, helping manage orbits and flying Rahi. Some Gyre Bomokhu clans have adapted to vacuum environments, and are known as Space Bomokhu.

Sigma: Added small bit of Brotherhood lore

Turahk are the Rahkshi of Fear.

The Brotherhood of Makuta uses Turahk to instill fear in potential dissidents and active foes alike, maintaining their secretive grip on power in the Matoran universe. According to Brotherhood-sanctioned tradition, Turahk represent a benevolent spirit that scares off feelings of laziness and sloth which do not contribute to one’s Duty, although many regard this belief as false.

History
Mata Nui
When Makuta Teridax's initial strike force of three Rahkshi was defeated by Kopaka, Teridax unleashed an additional team of Rahkshi, one of which was a Turahk. The three Rahkshi surfaced and attacked Onu-Koro, during which the Turahk promptly defeated Pohatu by using his own fears against him. The Turahk then came very near to capturing Takua before being stopped by Pohatu and Onua.

When the six Rahkshi cornered Kopaka, it was the Turahk that struck second, enveloping the Toa Nuva with his own fear of failure. However, Kopaka snapped out of the trance and flash-froze the Rahkshi.

While hunting for the herald, the Turahk combined with the Lerahk and the Kurahk to form a Rahkshi Kaita Za. The Kaita, along with its brother Rahkshi Kaita Vo caused devastation in Le-Wahi and also caused the approaching Tahu to feel angry, and Kopaka to feel fear. They and Lewa confronted the Kaita, but underestimated them. The Rahkshi Kaita Za caused a cyclone and took down Tahu and Kopaka. While the other Kaita aimed an attack to finish Lewa off, Kopaka managed to reflect it away towards the Rahkshi Kaita Za. Later, the Turahk, Lerahk and Kurahk separated.

Later the Turahk and the other five Rahkshi cornered Takua, Jaller, and Pewku in the Kini-Nui only to encounter the Toa Nuva there as well. While attempting to hit Gali, the Rahkshi Kurahk accidentally struck the Turahk with its staff. The Rahkshi of Fear, which had already been weakened by the Vorahk,MoL fell unconscious from the blow. As the Turahk was defeated, the Toa Nuva turned their attention to the other Rahkshi. None of the Toa noticed the Turahk regain its strength and head for Takua and Jaller.

Throwing Pewku aside, the Turahk trapped Takua in a wall of terror, as the Matoran attempted to run. The Rahkshi swung his staff at the helpless Matoran, only to be intercepted by Jaller, who was killed by the energy blast. Turahk was grabbed by Pohatu and Gali, but shook them off and came for Takua yet again, but Jaller's sacrifice caused Takua to don the Avohkii and transform into Takanuva, freezing the Turahk in its tracks with Light energy. The Turahk's and the other Rahkshi's armor was subsequently dismantled and used to make the Ussanui.

Abilities and Traits
Turahk are created from Kraata-Za that are dipped into Energized Protodermis. A second Kraata-Za is then needed to run the Rahkshi armor that is created.

Turahk usually rely on shadows and surprise, and are said to be able to appear and disappear at will. Turahk's power was particularly disturbing to the Toa Nuva, heroes who have rarely known fear.

Tools
Turahk carry Staffs of Fear, through which it can induce anything from slight unease to complete terror in their foes, depending on the power of the Kraata. A being struck by a Turahk's energies will either run in panic or remain rooted to the spot in sheer terror.

Trivia
* Teridax chose to use a Turahk to stop the coming of Takanuva because Fear was in direct opposition to the Ta-Matoran Principle of Courage.
* The Zone of Nightmares on Voya Nui replicated a Turahk in an effort to frighten Toa Inika Jaller. Jaller was able to destroy the Turahk, which morphed into a deceased Toa Nuva Tahu, who Kongu revealed to be an illusion as well.

Usage
The Kanohi Miru is closely associated with Le-Matoran due to it being the mask worn by Toa Lewa in legends.

Levitate disks were used in combination with Increase Weight disks to control the altitude of Metru Nui's Airships. Levitate disks were also used in Ancient's boots, which allowed him to float when stomping against the ground. The flying ability of Vahki may also be accomplished using similar means.

Lariska used Levitate Kanoka to simulate combat in a low gravity environment, in preparation for fighting a Toa of Gravity.

Models
Two official Miru models were made by LEGO: the standard Great and aerial Noble. Three official Miru Nuva models were made by LEGO: the standard Great Nuva, and aerial Great Nuva, and vehicle-adapted Great Nuva.

RSG has several unofficial Miru models: the standard Noble (designed by Oomatu and crafted by Petrus), Hordika (designed by Oomatu and crafted by Petrus and HahliNuva), Modern Vanguard (designed by Perp3tual and crafted by Petrus), and Ancient Vanguard (designed by Oomatu and crafted by Petrus).
</tab>
</tabs>

"The Dawn Ages" is the term used by modern Matoran scholars to describe the earliest days of the universe, now largely remembered as myth. This was the time in which the founding principles of the Matoran Universe were established.

History

Background
Long ago, fearing the destruction of the planet of Spherus Magna, the Great Beings created the Great Spirit Robot as a machine capable of mending their planet. However, for complex reasons, they knew that the planet could not be reformed for several thousand years, and so they sent the Great Spirit Robot on a mission of space exploration to advance their knowledge. The robot was governed by an AI known as Mata Nui, who was able to both study alien civilizations, and exercise complete control over the environment within his new body.

The Great Spirit Robot, a machine the size of continents, needed a vast amount of labor to keep itself running. This was accomplished by the use of biomechanical beings known as Oropi, who would perform unique functions to assist in its maintenance and repair. The first prototypes of Oropi became ancient and powerful beings in the Matoran Universe, including beings such as Helryx, Artakha, Karzahni, Orde, Takua, and Tren Krom. In its initial stages, the Great Spirit Robot was built on the surface of Spherus Magna, at first by a combination of Agori labor and vast machines, and later by Oropi laborers. It was protected from wild animals and bandits by warrior Oropi known as Barramoi. To later Matoran, this time was known as the Labors in Darkness.
According to Matoran myth, the two powerful beings known as Artakha and Karzahni held a contest to see who would occupy which role in the working of the universe. Artakha won the competition with his superior building skill, and was awarded the Mask of Creation alongside an island where he could create fantastic objects, while Karzahni lost the competition, being given the Mask of Alternate Futures and an island where he would be tasked with repairing broken Matoran.

The Hand of Artakha
The being Artakha, seeking to protect the universe around him, invited several other powerful prototype Oropi to form a group known as the Hand of Artakha, which was dedicated to preserving order. However, its members lacked cohesion and often committed violent acts on a vigilante basis, and so the group was disbanded. Later, one of its members, Toa Helryx, formed the Order of Mata Nui, a successor organization which worked in secrecy to enforce the will of Mata Nui directly.

The City of Legends
The foundations of Metru Nui, the City of Legends, were laid in the Time of Darkness by unthinking Matoran. The city was designed to harness the energies of laboring workers within its limits, and use them to power the mind of the Great Spirit. To oversee the labor of the Matoran, the Great Beings instituted one of their prototypes, a Turaga of Air by the name of Raganga ("First Elder"), to watch over the city. Raganga's

The Awakening
Once the Great Spirit Robot launched into space and left Spherus Magna, it could no longer rely on resupply and external maintenance, so the burden of all maintenance fell on the Oropi. The most common species of Oropi by far are the Matoran, who were initially Unawakened, meaning that their intelligent minds lacked any sort of emotion or ego. This suited their design specifications as the perfect laborers. However, the rogue Great Being Eparchos, who had stowed away inside the Great Spirit Robot in the body of the Po-Matoran Velika, decided to Awaken the Matoran, unleashing a process which granted the diminuitive workers free will and emotions on par with every other being. This decision instituted a massive ethical quandary within the society of other Oropi, who split on the issue of whether it was ethical to force Matoran to work in conditions that they now found cruel or unsuitable.

The Toa Cordak
Close to the center of the Great Spirit Robot, near the island of Varn, the local Matoran were under constant attack by the highly dangerous beings known as Zyglak. In response, the Toa of the local region began to operate as a unit, forming the first Toa team, the Toa Cordak. They were initially successful at repelling Zyglak raids in the region, but during one such raid, the leader, Toa Lesovikk, failed to direct his team in time to save them from their foes, and became the only surviving member of the team. Devastated, Lesovikk took to wandering throughout the Matoran Universe, searching for purpose.

Rise of the Barraki
Mata Nui, growing increasingly disinterested in the petty squabblings of the Oropi beneath him, decided to delegate his authority to a group of six beings, each from a separate Prime Species, to govern the Oropi in his stead. These six beings, chosen for leadership potential, soon gained the name of Barraki (meaning "warlords") for the brutal fashion in which they crushed all who declared them unfit to rule. In a few short millennia, the Barraki had conquered nearly all known Domes of the Matoran universe, with the exceptions of the Southern Islands and Metru Nui. This began the League Era, an era of peace pockmarked by brutal repression and constant rebellion, which lasted several millennia.

History
The Kingdom of Menota was founded by Pridak, with its capital Rhomahri in Phaidua.
The Kingdom of Ruangu claimed control of the Southern Continent, but the kingdom of Menota expanded on the continent despite this claim.

"The Dawn Ages" is the term used by modern Matoran scholars to describe the earliest days of the universe, now largely remembered as myth. This was the time in which the founding principles of the Matoran Universe were established.

History

History
Long ago, fearing the destruction of the planet of Spherus Magna, the Great Beings created the Great Spirit Robot as a machine capable of mending their planet. However, for complex reasons, they knew that the planet could not be reformed for several thousand years, and so they sent the Great Spirit Robot on a mission of space exploration in the meantime. The robot was governed by an AI known as Mata Nui, who was able to both study alien civilizations and exercise complete control over the environment within his new body.

To later Matoran, this was known as the Labors in Darkness.

Artakha and Karzahni
According to Matoran myth, at this time, the two powerful beings known as Artakha and Karzahni held a contest to see who would occupy which role in the working of the universe. Artakha won the competition with his superior building skill, and was awarded the Mask of Creation alongside an island where he could create fantastic objects; while Karzahni lost the competition, being given the Mask of Alternate Futures and an island where he would be tasked with repairing broken Matoran.

The city, which functioned as

- Raganga, Turaga of Metru Nui

These six beings, chosen for leadership potential, were soon known as the Barraki (meaning "warlords") for the brutal fashion in which they crushed all who declared them unfit to rule. In a few short millennia, the Barraki had conquered nearly all known Domes of the Matoran universe, with the exceptions of the Southern Islands and Metru Nui. This began the League Era, an era of peace pockmarked by brutal repression and constant rebellion, which lasted several millennia.

In its initial stages, the Great Spirit Robot was built on the surface of Spherus Magna, at first by a combination of Agori labor and vast machines, and later by Oropi laborers. It was protected from wild animals and bandits by warrior Oropi known as Barramoi.

The city, which functioned as

- Raganga, Turaga of Metru Nui

In this time, the populations of Metru Nui and the region surrounding Mount Valmai were displaced to the surface of Aqua Magna, inhabiting the islands of Mata Nui (Location), Voya Nui, and Mahri Nui. The populations of all three islands, cut off from the rest of the universe, were in desperate need of Toa, and their calls were eventually answered by the Toa Nuva and Toa Mahri.

The era came to an end when the Toa Nuva carried out the instructions laid out in the Scroll of Preparations, traveled to Karda Nui, and resuscitated the Great Spirit. However, they were deceived, and when they reactivated the Great Spirit Robot, it was Makuta Teridax's mind in control of the universe. This began the brief period known as the Reign of Shadows.
Makuta Teridax, as part of his plan to become the new Great Spirit, uploaded a virus into Mata Nui's processors, which deactivated his functions and sent him into a deep sleep. Unable to perceive his surroundings, Mata Nui's body, the Great Spirit Robot, crash-landed onto the planet of Aqua Magna, where the resulting collision caused death and destruction on a massive scale for the beings inside his body.
